Last weekend, I had my first unit meeting for the Jamboree.

When I got there, our first activity was a find someone who task. We were given a sheet with a load of boxes and we had to find someone who was suitable, so we could write their name in, eg someone has has completed bronze DofE. I think that this was a really good way of getting everyone to talk and get to know each other, as it gets everyone sharing names and facts about themselves. We played some other team building games throughout the day.

We got to try some Polish food, which was quite cool and really tasty.

We also worked on our unit identity. Every unit in the UK has a number assigned, but each unit gets to decide if they want a name to go along with it and if they are going to create badges and clothes etc. We didn’t finalise anything yet, but we did have a lot of good ideas thrown around and we will be discussing further at our next meeting.

I was a little bit worried going in, but when I got there I realised that I had met several people before, at the selection weekend and other scouting events I have done in the county recently. Also, everyone was really friendly, so really I had nothing to be worried about.

Our parents came in at the end, and the leaders ran through what the next 2 years are going to look like, in the lead up to the Jamboree, what happens there, and even after that.

Overall, I had a really good day and I am looking forward to my next unit meeting.
